Western States 2012 - Day 2

June 6, 2012 - Wednesday

Since we are new to the Airstream, we're not totally familiar with where everything is located. You know the feeling -- when you move into a new house you have to reprogram your mind to where the switches are that work what lights or sockets. Well, Wednesday morning proved to be a bit of challenge considering the late night and the fact that I accidentally hit the Test button on the CGFI outlet causing all of the 110 outlets in the motorhome to cease functioning. Of course, this was discovered when Martha plugged in the coffee maker. For a few moments it was crisis time. After all, coffee is an essential part, if not the best part, of waking up.

Not to worry, however, Byron to the rescue! Getting a flashlight so he could see in all the shadowed corners, he hunted for the problem after checking all the circuit breakers. After a few moments of quiet time, a good cup of coffee, and a hot shower, we were on our way.

Before heading on Byron filled up with diesel fuel and checked our mileage. We averaged 10.4 mpg. We also saved on diesel fuel compared to the price when we left Louisville.

If you wonder how the pets enjoy traveling, take a look at this photo and see if you can tell. This is Julie Ann, our female English cocker spaniel. Don't you think she definitely exhibits signs of stress?

On the way through Missouri we were passed by several groups of cars where were participating in the Hot Rod Power Tour. Byron enjoyed watching the various groups pass. There were several current-day Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, and a few Dodge Chargers. There was an equal smattering of cars from the 50's and early 60's; most being convertibles. There were also a few modified cars of earlier eras but not as many as come to the Street Rod Nationals the first week of August in Louisville. Byron said there was even a 1954 Kaiser in the bunch.

Casino RVing

Our stopping point for the night was RV parking area at the Bordertown Casino in Senaca, Oklahoma, just a bit south and west of Joplin. The rate was reasonable -- only $9.00 a night. The casino was nice enough to also give us a "buy one get one free" coupon (good for up to $10) for the restaurant, and free $7.00 play. Now, that's a good deal for $9. However, it isn't nice to take advantage of the situation so we did go in enjoy a few spins on the machines. Since we were out of wireless coverage again and it wasn't late like the night before, Martha had the chance to knit some on Benjamin's baby blanket, transfer pictures to the computer, and go to bed early. Benjamin, by the way, is the grandson we're expecting in late July or early August.

Before we went to bed we realized that we were on a main line of a railroad. Several trains went by before we made it to bed but, since we were so tired, neither of us heard any traffic through the night.
